Lithium hydroxide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula LiOH. It is a white crystalline powder that is soluble in water and slightly soluble in ethanol. It has strong alkalinity, with a pH of about 14 and a pKb of -0.04 in a 1mol/L solution. It is mainly used to prepare lithium salts and lithium based lubricating greases, electrolytes for alkaline batteries, and absorption liquids for lithium bromide refrigerators.
