Aluminum fluoride is an inorganic substance with the chemical formula AlF3. It is prepared by reacting aluminum hydroxide or metallic aluminum with hydrogen fluoride, or by reacting aluminum trichloride with hydrofluoric acid or ammonia water.
Colorless or white crystals. Insoluble in water, insoluble in acid and alkali. The property is very stable and can be hydrolyzed when heated.
Used as an electrolytic agent regulator and catalyst in aluminum electrolysis

synthetic method
Dissolve pure aluminum hydroxide in an excess of 37% hydrofluoric acid for reaction. After the reaction is complete, filter out the insoluble substances, and then evaporate the reaction solution at 100 º C (not exceeding 100 º C) until all crystals are formed. Wash with water several times, filter, and let dry.
