Indium tin oxide is a mixture, transparent brown film or yellowish gray block, composed of 90% In2O3 and 10% SnO2, mainly used to make liquid crystal displays, flat panel displays, plasma displays, touch screens, electronic paper, organic light-emitting diodes, solar cells, antistatic coatings, transparent conductive coatings for EMI shielding, various optical coatings, etc.
The main characteristics of indium tin oxide are its combination of electrical conductivity and optical transparency.
ITO is mainly used to make liquid crystal displays, flat panel displays, plasma displays, touch screens, electronic paper, organic light-emitting diodes, and solar cells, and antistatic coatings and transparent conductive coatings for EMI shielding.
ITO is also used in various optical coatings, most notably infrared-reflective coatings (heat mirrors) in architecture, automobiles, and sodium vapor lamp glass. Other applications include gas sensors, antireflective films, and Bragg reflectors for VCSEL lasers.
ITO thin film stress gauges can be used above 1400°C and in harsh environments, such as gas turbines, jet engines, and rocket engines.
